Hey, quick question. If we're all so pissed (no matter how righteously), why don't we do some thing about it? And I DON'T mean that "change the system from within" crap, either.
Something more in line with a little document that starts with the line "When in the course of human events..."
Know what I'm sayin?

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Wed, March 29, 2006 - 11:52 AMTo take it one step further, and maybe you good folks out there will disagree, but I was brought up to revere men like Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, etc, etc. But it seems today that their ideas of limited government have fallen short. It's like "sure, these were our founding fathers, but let's not actually practice the government they designed to keep us safe from political tyranny."
I know there are lots of like-minded people out there, but we all seem to take the apathetic aproach. "what can I do?"
If all the people who felt frustrated, betrayed, etc towards the government were to actually unite... -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Thu, March 30, 2006 - 7:12 AMThe American Left just got served by the latinos. Half a MILLION people protesting in L.A.? And many, if not most, of those people can't even vote. The anti-war crowd gets 100,000 on the Mall for a Saturday afternoon walk and then pouts because they aren't taken seriously. So get a million out. Or get the 100,000 to refuse to leave -- camp out until they get their way, Ukraine-style. Apathy is self-perpetuating. There's plenty we can do en masse, but people can't be bothered to give up a week of work or sleeping in their own bed for the sake of American democracy. Fucking pathetic. -

Thu, March 30, 2006 - 3:13 PMFucking-A dude.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to finger point at others before myself.
I'm a materialist, I love my computer with high speed internet, my big screen lcd tv, my video games, my extensive dvd collection, but FUCK!
Something's got to give...
I guess what I'm saying is that I make at least one of us who would probably be willing to chuck all that shit for a good old-fashioned patriotic revolution.
I hope I'm not alone.
You know, maybe the answer lies in the past. Up untill 1861, the concept of secession was widely regarded as one of our most cherished rights. The southern states were not the first part of the country to seriously consider it. Hell, all of New England almost up and left the Union when Jefferson was president.
Of course, Jefferson wished them the best of luck; Lincoln on the other hand, launched a full-scale invasion of the south, which cost thousands of lives, decimated the entire nations economy and caused such bitterness and hatred that the after effects are still being felt...
Ok, I'm done rantin' -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Sun, April 2, 2006 - 10:55 AMi can't afford to miss a week of work. that's part of the problem, so many people are tryin so hard just to keep their head above water and a roof over their head that it doesn't leave much time for anything else.
however if someone wants to give me a weeks pay, i would be more than happy to hop a bus to a protest and slog it out... -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Sun, April 2, 2006 - 11:46 AMI guess that's pretty much everyone. So many bills and taxes out there, no one can afford freedom. Also, it seems most americans would prefer order at the cost of freedom. Historically, that's always been the trade off, one for the other. -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Tue, April 4, 2006 - 3:47 AMAnd so the cycle is complete. The feudal system has been fully restored, except that this time the serfs can vote and believe themselves to be free. How long until your local Congressman asserts his right to your daughter's virginity on her wedding night? -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Wed, April 5, 2006 - 1:24 AMThere's not many ways more effective to oppress a people than to give them the illusion of freedom.
Ah, ignorance... You worked so well in the Dark Ages; let's resurrect that idea but this time we'll slap a coat of red white and blue on you and call it freedom. -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Wed, August 30, 2006 - 8:33 PMYou want some Freedom Fires with that?
Fox News is the #1news source in America right now. You can't wake up those who INSIST on staying asleep.
I saw a post on the Yahoo Message Boards that are attached to every AP Wire story that comes out? The RAND Coporation was being critical of US "Hearts & MInds" Operations in Iraq. You know what some fool actually posted? Who are these Liberal Faggots in the Rand Corporation and how to get at 'em?
That's when I knew we wre THROUGH the fucking looking glass.
No One's waking up until there's FULL ON civil war in Iraq and Gas is $5 a gallon...
Just a cynical prediction...

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 3:38 PMRestored? It never left, just the names changed, and the Lords said "you are free" but didn't say "to work for us anywhere you like". The founding fathers were all wealthy white men, and there was no middle class until after the farmers and slaves revolted, scaring the pants off the upper crusties, and they realized they needed a buffer zone.
Its only now we are getting wise to the lies in this age of information; we begin to see the similarity between Now and Then and think to ourselves "Wait a minute"....
We wouldn't know what to do with freedom if we had it for real, we aren't emotionally evolved enough yet. Hell, the Neo-cons realized we could take over the world cuz we were the biggest kid left standing on the block, and what is thier idea? Do it at the point of a
gun. We don't deserve to run the world. The best our most powerful people can come up with is to hold the world hostage and take what we want from it to assure our perpetual prosperity. I remember that from the schoolyard. Called being bullies.
"Civilized" my ass. Greedy children, more like. Damn The Man? Damn the Child-Playing-House while no one is home to supervise him.

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 3:30 PMWith the national guard, maybe. Woulda been great for the right wing too. They could just point to the body count and blame the illegals, get middle class right onboard. Yeah baby. Violence is the way to go. A few arrests later, end of movement. Leaders would be "deported" or branded terrorists (the next phase of the Neo-Con agenda will probably involve starting to abduct US citizen whose voice becomes too agitating), and then deported to the country of the interrogator's choice.
"Government" isn't the problem, it's the people in it. Study the enemy, don't just rail against him. They are heinously organized and have all the money. Now, thanks to some well-planned cheating and a lack of credible opposition from the other side, they are in charge, and can write the rules the way they want with only the nutless dems to make feeble squeeking noises until they get walked over the top of AGAIN.
We're along for the ride until they fuck us just a little too hard and don't give us candy afters.
Then more people will care. For now, your favorite season of TV is on sale at Wally World.
Get thee hence, and consume til you forget your rage.
Again, prove me wrong, please. I'll marry you.

Wed, August 30, 2006 - 8:28 PMWhat the Latinos got right is LOCATION, Bro. In DC, Protests are EXPECTED. Shit, when the anti-IMF protesters hit DC, the cops had ben planning for them for WEEKS. All that happens is the local news tells folks how to take alternat routes to work. The Latinos hit all over, and shut down the streets in many cases. THAT'S Protesting...

Wed, March 7, 2007 - 3:41 PMGotta get the peeps organized, G. And for that you need some common ground. If you find it, you'll be on to something. Rage isn't enough, tho, and people are immune to old school rhetoric now. Gotta think outside the box about what outside the box means.

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 3:22 PMSecession is an unrealistic and absurd option in today's world. Let's say you amass the popular support to make it happen. Then what? You are your own country, sovereign in theory. YEAH RIGHT. All they would need to do is cut you off from all services in the country, and pull the plug on any businesses in the area. Whammy. When PG&E suddenly says: we don't havea contract with your new country and cuts you off, who you gonna cry to? The newly formed government of your new nation that has no legal code yet? Hehe.
Make it one week though this life without suckling at the teet of the American economy. Got a commune you can make into an entire nation-state with it's own alternative economy? Might wanna go there first. There's been success with community money (the Ithaca Minute, for example) but until you lay the foundations, unplugging is just a dope-induced, rage-inspired, 70s nostalgia pipdream.
It's a great way to say Damn The Man, and all, but it's no more reasonable than a violent overthrow of the government. What you leave in the wake of your rage is the primary consideration. You would find the aftermath of that action far less appealing that the sense of satisfaction you get from suggesting it and dreaming it. Besides, cruise through suburbia sometime. Look at all the fat, bermuda shorts wearing idiots out there. Do you seriously see enough of them getting upset about anything more than the rising cost of feulling their winnebago or SUV? They'd never sign on to that concept, and they would be the first ones to call the feds if you said "When we seceed Wal-Mart must leave our new municipality."
I'm all about ragin against the machine, but prodcutive solutions are the only thing worth talking about. Secssions, revolution, riots, going socialist/communist...all that stuff: ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY.
I share the rage, but seriously. Get real. It won't work, it's not realistic. It's also no longer the 1970s. Groups like this need to update the dogma a spech. We're all pissed, but unless we focus and unite with a REALISTIC VISION fuelled by an education about how it all works, we're just the next easily-ignored protest group of extermists that some chooch in a suit has to walk around on his way to work. Not something to be taken seriously.
When people like this get serious, and want to take the ball up the middle, gimme a call. You are right, there are lots of people out there who are pissed, and plenty that are asleep. I support their right to be asleep if they choose to be though. And if I was to be the one to lead them to a brighter tomorrow, I also have to be concerned with the well being of the sheep as well as the wolves. Who will feed the homeless in a secession? Who will suddenly become homeless? Anybody reading this has enough scratch to be able to get on a computer now and again, which means they have teh luxury of a roof over their heads, generally speaking. Relative luxury. Who would trade this (real or perceived) luxury, even if we have to pay for it at the low price of the constant, obsessive frotage of captalist's greedy fingers for the chaos of revolution and the uncertainty of an untried political system in a land who's natural resources do not exist in enough quantity in any one location to make a successful break with industrialized society. A culture where self-interest is the primary focus? Not bloody likely.
We may get bent over now and again, but most people prefer the benefits of being whores to the Unca Sam da Pimp, vs being homeless, cold and hungry. Design something better first, THEN get people onboard with a switchover. Then you'll have something. This is not as impossible as it might sound. Look into community money, alternative fuels, and living off the grid technology. It can be done...but you'll find less money for it than it needs to get off the ground, thus grounding movements such as the one you mention. We all gotta bend over for the man these days. Even if it is we who make him the man in the first place.
Good luck. Keep up the fight. Hell, prove my dumb-ass wrong. I'd move to the new place.
-Peace -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Sun, November 4, 2007 - 12:46 AMPalabra :) It's a nice concept, and Lord knows I would enjoy a man-free life. However, realistically speaking...it does seem rather far fetched. On the other hand, there should be more people who share the same ideas and viewpoints, because a positive change would be a beautiful thing. That was beautifully written by the way. Your phrases and arguments were deliciously assertive and refreshing...pure poetry. -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Fri, June 26, 2009 - 8:21 AMsecession was not even a thought in 2008 but today with 37 states filing the tenth amendment things are looking a bit different. The hole that government has dug us into is consuming the fed. More and more reps are asking for the fed to be audited. If this happens it will blow the lid off of all the secrets concerning the money, where it goes and who is spending it. I read the original document filed by south carolina before the Civil war. It is not much different then the document filed by all 37 states this year. I think the country is starting to wake up and a lot of it has to do with posts like yours and posts I have placed all over the internet. There are thousands of cyber warriors who are out there every day spreading the news . Freedom is the goal and big government does not deliver that. Montana has voted themselves the right to manufacture any firearms they want and have passed a law that says these firearms made in Montana and kept in Montana are not subject to federal regulations. It goes into effect in October. The battle for the country will move to the states as they all try to counter the federal monster that we have now. Unfunded mandates and excessive taxation will bring out the rebellion in us all. -

Re: If we all hate The Man so much...
Sat, November 28, 2009 - 7:56 PMThe problem with this country is too much government period. The fight coming is going to be between you and I. People who want socialism and people who want our republic back. Are you willing to die for change? for a one world government? You better be. I am willing to use what ever it takes including my rifles to stop you and your kind. Personal freedom is the most important thing in this world. Freedom to live and let live. Collectivism has caused every misery in history. Religious and secular. forcing another to live by your rules. I want my country , my freedom and my republic back . Fuck you and your change. Shove it up your ass motherfucker

Wed, December 2, 2009 - 3:11 PMBull shit!! Everyone I know here in my area is hard working and tired of being srcewed by our fucking government. Both parties!! They serve the the central banks and its time this treason was put under. The movement for a one world authority is the disease we need to cure. Freedom will never be served by instituting socialism and forcing it on the entire world. In the name of peace my ass. What a huge fucking lie. Peace through oppression is not peace but slavery. Today I cut firewood for 6 hours because I cant afford propane to heat with. Most people I know are in worse shape then us. You should step back and take a better look or move to a place where Americans still live not illegal aliens.
